Richmond Teams Start Season With Spider Alumni Open

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The University of Richmond cross country programs began their 2016 seasons on Saturday morning with the Spider Alumni Open at Pole Green Park and showed very well against some quality competition. 

The men’s 5k race featured crosstown rival VCU, George Mason, Davidson and William & Mary while the women’s 2-mile race traded out Davidson for UMass in addition to those other programs.

The Richmond men took off first and were lead by Johnny Hogue who finished 10th overall with a time of 15:36.2. Hogue was trailed by Miles Clikeman (15:43.5), Alex Lucking (15:50.2), Seamus Otto (16:11.9), William Alpaugh (16:14.2), Ryan Lerda (16:53.8) and Brett Kramer (17:36.9). The Spiders’ collective finishes were good enough to finish third among the five competing teams.

The 2-mile took off right around 9:45 and saw Richmond’s Amanda Corbosiero pace the Spider crowd by finishing third overall with a time of 10:48.0. Kylie Regan followed closely behind, passing multiple competitors down the stretch to close out an 11:09.1 run. Tara Hanleyrounded out the top 10 with a time of 11:14.1 with Shelby Cain (11:18.3), Claire Brown (11:21.2),Ave Grosenheider (11:25.4), Peyton McGovern (11:26.4) and Marisa Ruskin (11:31.6) each placing in the top 25. 

Of the four qualifying teams, Richmond finished second behind William & Mary with a team average of 11:10.14.
