NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Richmond freshman cross-country runner Miles Clikeman has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week following his stellar debut performance at the Spider Alumni Open at Pole Green Park over the weekend.
Miles was the top Richmond freshman to cross the line, doing so in 18th overall position out of 52 with a time of 15:43.5. He earned 14 points for the Spiders who ended up finishing third among the competing teams.
“Miles has been working hard the first few weeks of the season,” men’s cross country coach Steve Taylor said. “In the short time he’s been with our program we’ve already seen improvement in several areas that will ultimately help him run faster. This weekend he looked great and it’s exciting to see him recognized for his efforts on the course. It’s going to be compelling watching him and his freshmen teammates develop in the weeks and years to come.”
The Spiders will run again on Sept. 19 at the Iona College Meet of Champions in the Bronx, N.Y. The 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship will return to Pole Green Park in late October. Clikeman and Co. will be looking to earn the program’s first A-10 Championship since 2010.
